DEPARTMENT OF NURSING
A Tim gardnerWord from the Director of Nursing

Over the past few years the nursing department has been developed and reorganized with the aim of improving the quality of nursing care and service provided to our patients. With responsibility for nearly 200 staff, the department now includes nursing, reception, food services, portering, laundry and cleaning staff. With the day-to-day control of these departments we are able to provide the highest quality service we can for patients from the moment they enter the hospital to the time they are discharged.

The nursing department is responsible for the nursing care in both the Outpatient and Inpatient areas. The Outpatient areas consist of the main OPD, Medical, Surgical, Pediatric, ENT, Orthopedic, Obstetric/Gynecology, Pain management, Ophthalmology and Diabetic/Hypertensive clinics.

The Obstetric/Gynecology unit consists of 15 beds, 9 single rooms of which two are VIP rooms and two rooms of three beds each. There are also two delivery suites and a fully equipped nursery. This unit deals with all Obstetric and Gynecology conditions, offering a full range of facilities.

Over the past two years the nursing department has been very busy working towards accreditation by the Australian Council for health Care standards (ACHS). In November 2006 the hospital underwent it first full survey, which it passed with no major recommendations. The accreditation was subsequently awarded and in May of 2007 the certificate of full accreditation was presented, thus making the Hospital the first to attain such an organization wide accreditation in Bahrain.

This is actually only the start as this process is part of the Hospital’s overall policy of Continuous Quality Improvement which will ensure that we not only maintain our very high standards of care, but also continually look for ways to improve.

If anyone has any suggestions as to ways in which we can improve our service please do not hesitate to contact me on the e-mail below. Any contributions will be greatly appreciated.
