A Second Century of Innovation
American Mission
Hospital (AMH) is now well into a second century of service to the
residents of Bahrain. From the outset, AMH has been an innovative
institution – Bahrain’s first hospital, early efforts to improve
public health, and outreach into the community through satellite
clinics and mobile services. Our foundations were established by
self-sacrificing missionaries who have been followed by several
generations of dedicated staff. What themes shall we pursue in our
second century?
Quality & Safety:
AMH was awarded hospital-wide accreditation by the Australian
Council on Healthcare Standards International (ACHSI) in March,
2007. The accreditation exercise brings into focus the policies and
procedures needed to insure that patients receive high-quality care
in a safe environment. Self-assessment is conducted annually and
on-site inspection visits are made every second year to ensure that
procedures are being followed in line with
internationally-recognized standards.
Availability:
Our first satellite facility, the AMH Saar Medical & Dental Center,
is a proven success. Its location and friendly atmosphere draws more
and more patients as the months pass by. Plans are underway to
replace the current AMH Saar facility with a larger structure
offering more capacity and services. Likewise, we are exploring the
possibility of opening similar centers within other population
centers in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Outreach:
Teams from AMH frequently visit community social centers, schools,
clubs, factories and work-camps to screen persons for common
disorders and teach healthy life-styles. The
Family Health
magazine is distributed free-of-charge in three editions each year
providing healthcare information and advice.
As a private,
not-for-profit hospital, the staff of AMH is committed to meeting
the needs of our patients and their families. As you experience our
care and services, we invite your feedback. Write us with your
comments and suggestions at
