Urology
Urology is the medical and surgical specialty that focuses on the urinary tracts of males and females, and on the reproductive system of males. Medical professionals specializing in the field of urology are called urologists and are trained to diagnose, treat, and manage patients with urological disorders. The organs covered by urology include the kidneys, adrenal glands, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra, and the male reproductive organs (testes, epididymis, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, prostate and penis).
The Urology department has the facilities to treat diseases of the urinary tract in men, women, & children. This can be operative (surgery) or medical (by drugs and other means).
Some of these problems are:
Urine out flow obstruction (blocked passage of urine) due to prostate problems, infections, stones, etc.
Urinary incontinence ( uncontrolled leakage of urine)
Cancer kidneys prostate & genitalia
Infertility and erectile dysfunction in men
Urology services are available at fixed times in the morning or evenings in Manama and on specific days in the Saar clinic .
Most surgeries are performed endoscopically (through the operating telescope) therefore there is no need for an incision like in conventional surgery. This reduces the hospital stay and recovery time. Quite a few of the procedures are done on an outpatient basis, requiring no admission.
