Your
guide to BRUSHING
Brushing method
Point
the brush toward the gum at an angle of (45 degrees), rotate the
brush bristles at the edge of the gum and roll it downwards for
upper teeth and the opposite for lower teeth.
Use
the same angulation with
the brush for the areas toward the tongue.
Use
the brush in a vertical position for the inside surfaces of front
teeth. In this way, the brush comes into contact with the edge of
the gum perfectly.
The biting surfaces can be brushed in any horizontal direction
to help reach the deep fissures and grooves.
Remember to:
- Use a soft or medium brush
- Brush 2 - 3 times daily
- Brush your tongue.
- Use a fluoride tooth- paste.
- Spend at least 2 minutes for brushing your
teeth.
- Change your brush when you feel the bristles
start to fray.

Your
Guide to Flossing
Why do you need to floss?
Gum disease is a leading cause of tooth loss in adults. It is mainly
caused by plaque (bacteria) that accumulates on tooth surfaces,
at the gum line and in between teeth.
The toothbrush helps clean the areas toward the gum line and
biting surfaces, but the area between teeth is more difficult to
clean because the brush does not reach this area. The earliest stage
of gum disease is often characterized by bleeding, tenderness, swelling
and redness of the gums. These symptoms will progress to advanced
stages of disease unless the amount of accumulated bacteria is controlled
by oral hygiene aids.
Flossing is one of these aids to help prevent gum disease and cavities
between teeth. It is advised to use it once a day before brushing.
The Flossing method is demonstrated in the following pictures:
1 -
Wrap the floss around the middle fingers and use the thumb and index
fingers to control it to reach upper or lower teeth.
2- Slide
the floss between teeth in a horizontal motion (back and forth)
until the floss is free to move.
2- Then hold it to one side in a C shape and rub the tooth in an
upward movement. Do the same thing to the other adjacent tooth while
you still have the floss there. There is a 1-3 mm space between
the gum and the tooth that you can clean.

What is a mouth protector?
A mouth protector is a plastic removable appliance adapted to fit
comfortably to the shape of the upper teeth. An athlete should wear
a mouth protector to prevent injuries to the mouth and surrounding
structures during sporting activities.

1. Protect the teeth from any fractures.
2. Cushion the jaw and keep teeth separated to avoid any injuries
to the tongue and cheeks.
3. Help to prevent and reduce the rate of concussion by absorbing
the shock from a blow to the face.
When should my child wear a mouth protector?
Most contact sports require a mouth protector. Whenever a child
is involved in a contact sport activity, it is advisable to use
a mouth protector.
*Different kinds of mouth protectors.
Mouth protectors may be available in sports stores. The most protective
and protective mouth protectors are those custom made in a dental
center.
