The  Island Classic Charity golf tournament is an exclusive annual sporting event and the major fundraiser of American Mission Hospital held under the kind patronage of His Majesty the King Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa at his private golf course in Saffriya. This event is considered to be a major event in the social calendar of Bahrain.  Major organizations sponsor the event under different levels of sponsorship, which entitles them to enter teams to play at the golf course. The Island Classic benefits the expansion, renovation and rebuilding of Bahrain's first hospital, American Mission Hospital, Bahrain.

The Island Classic was first held in February 1997. From the outset, the Island Classic (then known as the AAB-AMH Island Classic),  has captured the imagination and support of the community. Members of the ruling Family, merchant families and corporations respect the goals and production of the events. The community sees the events as a strong vehicle to support the hospital's 100-year long history of not-for-profit medical service to the residents of Bahrain and the region.

Last year, American Mission Hospital celebrated the 10^th anniversary of the Island Classic. This year the Island Classic golf tournament is scheduled to be held from the 15^th to 17^th of November 2007 under the patronage of His Majesty the King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa at his private golf course in Saffriya.

The 19^th Hole Party which is the golfers award ceremony will be held at Bahrain International Circuit on 18^th November 2007.

The Gala Dinner will be held at The Ritz Carlton Hotel & Spa on 28^th November 2007. This event is held to honor the sponsors for their support to the Island Classic and American Mission Hospital.

The sponsors day event is to be held from the 31^st of January to 2^nd February 2008. In the past years, British golfer, Noel Hunt, who played in the top 100 of the PGA performed his international golf show at the Island Classic. The show was recognized around the world as the most professionally presented and technically brilliant golf show.

The Island Classic Wall of honor recognizes the sponsors who, from 1997 through 2001 raised BD 1.3 million for the construction and the establishment of the new six- story AMH 2000 building.

The theme chosen to symbolize the wall of honor is a famous Arab proverb. "A journey of a thousand miles starts with one step" reflects how one man, Samuel Zwemer, ignited the vision of a health service for Bahrain with the single step of opening a medical dispensary in the Old Souk in 1893. By the grace of God, one man's dream of providing modern medical care in the Arabian Gulf has produced today's American Mission Hospital. As a nonprofit healthcare institution, the hospital has flourished with strong community support for a century and is preparing for a bright future.
